Yesterday, police released surveillance video of a suspect who roughed up and robbed a 9-year-old in the Bronx this week. The incident happened around 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday when the 50-year-old suspect followed Jacky Saunders into his apartment building in the Fordham section of the Bronx, threw him into a wall, removed his money and then fled the scene on a bike. The Post reports that Jacky had been given a $20 bill by his aunt to go buy a $1 bar of soap at the corner bodega when he was accosted. “I was sending Jacky to the store when we heard him screaming from all the way downstairs,” said his aunt, Faye Singleton.

The thief followed Jacky back to his building after he had bought the soap—with the $19 change in his pocket—before attacking him in the vestibule. “He said, ‘Put your money in your pocket!’ ” Jacky told the Post. “He pushed me against the wall! He was a little bit rough.” The suspect was wearing a red shirt, dark shorts and white sneakers at the time, and Jacky described his ride as a "green-and-black bike with a white seat." You can see surveillance video of the susepect below.

Jacky's grandmother was devastated over the incident: “He doesn’t want to go outside to play. He won’t go to the pool or park,” said Anora Quinn. “My grandson has been going to the store since he was a little baby. I hope the police get [the mugger] before the streets do, because he lives around here and everyone knows about it.”

This is the FOURTH robbery involving a child under 10 that has happened this summer: Abubakarr Payinkay, 18, was arrested and charged for stealing a fancy gold bracelet off the wrist of a 4-year-old; Michael Andrews, 30, was arrested for stealing a $300 bracelet off a 2-year-old's wrist in Bed-Stuy; and a mugger stole a $400 gold chain right off the neck of a 3-year-old who was sitting in his stroller in Bed-Stuy in a separate incident.
