Lookin' good, Capitol Theater
The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY—which will be run by Brooklyn Bowl's Peter Shapiro, who has some booking help from Bowery Presents—is set to reopen early next month after undergoing some renovations (it hasn't seen a live show since the 1990s). Back in the day, the legendary venue saw acts like Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, and yes this is where Phish played that epic "Harpua" on November 28th, 1992. Today the venue announced 40 shows that will kick off its revival, starting with opening night on September 4th (the acts are still TBA for that one). Some of the highlights:
- 9/7/12 The Roots/Bob Weir solo (A Benefit for HeadCount) (followed by DJ ?uestlove's Cap Train Party)
- 9/8/12 Hugh Laurie with The Copper Bottom Band [Dr. House!]
- 9/9/12 Buddy Guy & Jonny Lang
- 9/25/12 Dirty Projectors
- 10/10/12 Fiona Apple
- 10/13/12 Blues Traveler/Spin Doctors
- 10/20/12 Psychedelic Furs w/ The Lemonheads feat. Juliana Hatfield
And they'll close out the year with two nights of performances by the Steve Miller Band.
The venue is just a block and a half from the Port Chester Metro-North stop, which is about a 37 to 47-minute trip from Grand Central.
