Cops have connected the shooting of a Bensonhurst 99-cent store owner with the murder of another shop owner last month, and are warning shopkeepers around Brooklyn to be on the lookout for the shooter. On Thursday night, 59-year-old father of four Isaac Kadare was found dead on the floor of Amazing 99 Cent Deals on 86th Street; he was fatally stabbed in the neck and shot in the head. Cops say the bullet that killed Kadare is from the same gun used to kill 65-year-old Mohammed Gebeli inside a Bay Ridge clothing shop in July. “In both cases the bodies were found in the aisles of the store and covered in certain ways,” police spokesman Paul Browne said.
Gebeli was also shot in the neck with a .22-caliber handgun at Valentino Fashion Inc. on Fifth Avenue in Bay Ridge on July 6. To make matters even stranger, the addresses of the two shops are similar: Gebeli was killed at 7718 Fifth Avenue, and Kadare was killed at 1877 86th Street. Police are now speculating whether the killer migiht be obsessed with the numbers 1, 8 and 7. “We don’t know if it’s weird coincidence or something more,” Browne noted. “We now believe he may be erratic.” At the same time, he added, “It may be somebody looking for quick cash, like a drug user.”
Kadare's family said yesterday that they believed he might have been killed for the $900 in rent money he had just collected before his murder. A witness told police the suspect walked into Kadare’s store wearing a ski mask, holding a gun and a knife just before 9 p.m. Thursday night. The witness added the suspect bumped into him and barked “What are you looking at?”, fled into a nearby Mexican bakery, and was soon spotted getting into a black or gray, two-door jeep.
