July is a pretty darn wonderful month for hot dog lovers in New York. The fun kicked off with nauseating professional hot dog eating, and rounds off with some incredible, far less gluttonous, non-professional hot dog cooking (and eating!). That's right, The Great Hot Dog Cookoff is just around the corner.
Back for its seventh year, the charity-helping cookoff is going to be bigger than ever with a new location (630 Flushing, the old Pfizer factory) and an impressive array of professional and amateur hot dog heros looking to show off their finest franks. We're talking chefs from Gramercy Tavern, Mile End, Marlow & Daughters and The Meat Hook—not to mention the vegans at Maimonide Of Brooklyn. Plus, in addition to all those pros there will still be 24 teams of amateur chefs serving up their best hot dog variations—always our favorite party anyway.
So you want to go? Well, you've got two ticket options for the July 21st event, neither of them bad:
The Original Weenie Experience
$45/ticket
Afternoon of endless sampling of the amateur competition hot dogs, 1 ticket for a Pro-Row competition dog, 4 beer tickets from KelSo Beer Company, collector’s cup, live entertainment, samples from Steve’s Ice Cream, Kombucha Brooklyn and more. The Super Weenie Experience
$75/ticket
Everything above plus tickets to sample all of the Pro-Row competition dogs, access to KelSo Beer for the length of the event, express check-in and beer-line, and signature cocktails from Bulldog Gin in the shaded Super Weenie Lounge.
Honestly, for the chance to try all the professional dogs and drink all that beer, we'd just make the $30 splurge for the Super Weenie tickets. But that's just us. Can't afford either? Luckily, regular hot dogs are cheap. Here are our favorites in the city.
