The lawyer accused of beating and murdering his girlfriend in Astoria last month was finally indicted on Thursday in Queens Supreme Court, and could be sentenced to life in prison without parole. Danielle Thomas, 27, was found dead in her apartment at 28-25 33rd St on June 24; her boyfriend Jason Bohn, 33, a contract attorney against whom she'd recently fired a restraining order, was arrested and charged with her murder, aggravated criminal contempt, criminal contempt and tampering with evidence a few days later.
On Thursday, Bohn was indicted on an upgraded first-degree murder charge, meaning the grand jury and Queens district attorney Richard Brown believe Bohn “acted in an especially cruel and wanton manner pursuant to a course of conduct intended to inflict and inflicting torture upon the victim prior to the victim’s death,” according to the Daily News. Bohn had a history of beating Thomas, and claimed in a murder confession note that the murder was "an accident." He allegedly beat and strangled Thomas to death a few days before she was found, kept her body cold in an ice-filled bathtub, and sent text messages to her worried friends from her phone. Bohn's lawyer, Todd Greenberg, says Bohn plans to plead not guilty at his arraignment on July 23.
