After 10 hours of negotiations yesterday and more today, Con Ed management and union workers are still in talks to discuss the nearly week-long lockout. UWUA Local 1-2 spokesman John Melia told Reuters, "Nothing has changed. Things are still grim." That sounds just great for tomorrow—do we need to expect more brownouts?

Last weekend, Con Ed dismissed 8,000 workers and put its 5,000 managers into the field, prompting union criticism that the utility was putting customers in "great peril." The two sides are trying to work things out over pensions, health care, and their wages, and they say they'll continue the talks throughout the weekend.
