Lots of record highs were set across the region during the last couple of days but not at Central Park, where the temperature topped out at 94 degrees both days. A bit more cloudiness means no records are expected today (well maybe at JFK) but it will still be hot and sticky enough to extend the heat advisory until this evening. Look for highs in the lower 90s at most places.
A slow-moving cold front will make its presence felt in the form of showers and thunderstorms later this afternoon into the evening. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that with this much moisture in the air some of those showers will produce intense downpours.
The front should pass overnight, bringing cooler, drier air tomorrow. Saturday's high will be in the mid-to-upper 80s with much less humidity. As the next high pressure system arrives Sunday will start off in the low 60s and warm to the low 80s under sunny skies. Showers and even cooler weather may arrive early next week but let's enjoy the fine weekend before worrying about that.
