When he isn't saving neighbors from burning buildings or going off-message on Sunday morning talk shows, Cory Booker occasionally finds the time to stroll through the beatific streets of Newark—and as he was doing so yesterday, he happened to come across a car accident. And boom, he was a hero again: "God bless my residents. Pulled up on pedestrian/vehicle accident. We got man stabilized & into ambulance. He'll b OK. Thanx 2 all who helped," he tweeted afterwards.
Booker, who was traveling back from a graduation ceremony with his detail, came upon the accident at the corner of Clinton Ave and Parkhurst Street. According to police, Booker got out of his car and spotted a man in his 50s bleeding profusely from his head, lying in the street unconscious. Booker ran to his side, held his hand started talking to him. When the man woke up, he recognized the voice and asked, “Are you Mayor Booker?”
Booker also gave credit to the driver: "I appreciate the driver. Man ran into traffic. Driver did the right thing & stayed & helped me & others aid man until medical help arrived," he tweeted. In a cynical world, good deeds resound more loudly than any negative words."
As you can imagine, other local officials are probably somewhat jealous by the latest notch in Booker's belt—especially Gov. Chris Christie. Oh sure, he tweeted, "Booker! Great save Mr. Mayor" two hours ago. But it must rile Christie that nobody is calling him a hero, despite the fact that he's been spreading the Gospel of The Boss one tweet at time.
