A Brooklyn family is suing the city for negligence after a teenager was beaten up in the cafeteria at Roy H. Mann Junior High School in Bergen Beach earlier this month. The attack left Kardin Ulysse, 14, blind in one eye, and after two surgeries, it's unclear whether he'll ever regain vision. “The doctor says he needs a transplant,” his father, Pierre Ulysse tells the Daily News. "For me to send him to school with two eyes and come back with one eye is really absurd."

According to a DOE report obtained by the Daily News, Ulysse's assailants were calling him a “f-----g f----t,” a “p----,” a “transvestite” and “gay." One student allegedly pinned his arms behind his back while the others repeatedly punched him in the face, and it's likely his eye injury was caused by broken glass from his spectacles. The family is suing the city for $16 million for failing to properly supervise the students. Two of the bullies were charged with misdemeanors in Family Court, but a lawyer for the family is calling for a hate crime investigation, which could lead to felony charges. And if you're not outraged enough, check out the News's heartbreaking photos of Kardin.
