[Update Below] A man was stabbed in the East Village early this morning. According to police, the incident happened before 3 A.M. in front of 737 East 5th Street. Police found the 30-year-old victim unconscious and unresponsive with a stab wound to the chest. One person tweeted, "Colorful morning in East Village; police blocked off 2 streets after a stabbing, then passed a man who filled up his car with beer. Ok."

The victim was transported to Beth Israel Hospital, where he was pronounced DOA. The death was declared a homicide; there have been no arrests yet, and the investigation is ongoing.

Update: According to CBS, the stabbing started as a fight between a boyfriend and girlfriend. A 30-year-old relative of the woman tried to intervene, and the boyfriend stabbed him to death. “He was a good dude, was always with his kids,” the victim's friend told CBS. “Always with his kids. That’s all I would see him with, with his kids. I never saw him get into any trouble. If anybody needed help, he was always there to help. It’s too bad that it turned out to be like this.”
