One innocent bystander reacts to the cacophony.
For their latest mission, Improv Everywhere teamed up with the Guggenheim and simultaneously set off 100 car alarms on Staten Island in a Kohls parking lot. Nothing annoying about that! They called it a "car alarm symphony," but that's really classing up what ended up just being a bunch of car alarms going off at once. It's a miserable sound, and you can hear it below.
The prank was a collaboration with the Guggenheim Museum exhibition stillspotting nyc, who are planning to come back to Staten Island later this summer with a much more enjoyable off-site exhibition series that "weaves history with fantasy." The exhibit will span several locations and take place July 14-15, July 21-22, July 28-29, and August 4-5.
For stillspotting nyc: staten island, the fourth edition in the series, sound artist Justin Bennett and poet Matthea Harvey present Telettrofono, an audio walking tour that braids history with fantasy along and around the waterfront.
Telettrofono will be offered in the St. George and New Brighton neighborhoods of Staten Island for four summer weekends. Starting from a stillspotting nyc kiosk, located near the Staten Island Ferry Terminal in St. George, visitors will take a soundwalk, guided by an approximately one and a half-hour recording.
