An ambitious bank robber hit three Brooklyn banks in a half hour period Friday afternoon. Thomas W. McKenna, a retired first-grade detective with the NYPD, gave credit to the suspect for “a certain amount of perseverance." “It’s very unusual for a guy to do three banks in a row, that close together, and to stay in the same area,” he told the Times. “He’s looking for a score, there’s no doubt about that. And he’s nonsectarian about which bank he goes to. Any bank is open play for him.”
Police say that the suspect first hit the Apple Bank at 1321 Kings Highway just after 2:15 p.m.; he gave a note to the teller and fled with an unknown amount of cash. About 15 minutes later, the same suspect tried to rob the Capitol One Bank at 1226 Kings Highway, but ran off without any money.
The suspect was more successful at the HSBC Bank at 1602 Kings Highway. He arrived there at 2:40 p.m., gave the teller a note, and left with an unknown amount of money. The suspect is described as Hispanic, about 5-foot-7, and 150 pounds. He wore black pants, a red shirt and a red baseball hat. Police don't believe he showed a weapon.
