Daft Punk is playing at T.G.I. Friday's every day it seems: Pitchfork pointed us to a recent commercial from the fast food chain, which contains a background song that sounds suspiciously similar to LCD Soundsystem's classic "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House." Does that mean Sarah's girlfriend is working the door there too? Watch the commercial, then listen to the original song below.
This isn't the first time that a company has been accused of ripping off a major indie band lately: last week, a British ad for Volkswagen came up with a song that sounded just like Beach House's "Take Care." The band noted that the ad agency had "actively tried to license 'Take Care' from us for weeks, to which we politely declined."
Another one that jumps to mind: Troy University blatantly copied Grizzly Bear's breakout hit "Two Weeks" for a school video. Why T.G.I. Friday's or any of these other companies didn't think to call Of Montreal—who have had no issue with licensing music for or appearing in commercials—is beyond us. They'll even let you re-record their songs with product-specific lyrics!
