Everybody say hello to Demi Monde, the newest cool kid on the cocktail block. Located in the Financial District and boasting serious cocktail and cooking cred—it has strong ties to Death & Company and the chef opened Van Daag—Demi Monde is the place you can blame when your cocktail compatriots all go gaga for a SodaStream this summer. Also, this might be the perfect place to get a pricy cocktail when you don't want to drink a tall boy on the Staten Island Ferry just yet.
Basically, the well-trained bartenders at Demi Monde can make you pretty much any cocktail you want. However, considering the pedigree of the place's original drink menu (Death & Co.'s David Kaplan along with former Death bartender Alex Day and bar manager Scott James Teague developed them) you probably want to try something from that. And in that case that means fizz. The joint boasts a custom soda carbonation system so they can get the mix of gas and foam in their drinks (and house-made sodas) just so.
The fun doesn't just stop when the bubbles pop, either. The 120-seater also boasts a communal dining experience from chef Phillip Kirschen-Clark, who managed to make Danish-ish food fun at his last gig. Now—in addition to a $130 nine-course tasting menu he'll be offering once a night at the 12-seat Chef's Table opening next week—Kirschen-Clark's offering treats like Negroni Oysters with orange confit ($14), a variety of caviar services and Avocado Frito served with a passion fruit pepper dip ($13). Don't say that doesn't sound interesting. You can see the full menu here:
And wait, that's not all! As if food and drink weren't enough, the Demi Monde crew is hoping to open a coffee bar on the restaurant's ground floor this summer with beans from LA's Handsome Coffee Roasters. This way, you'll never have to catch that boat.
