BAM. And the record for the most expensive apartment in New York City has been broken. Again. Just months after the penthouse at 15 CPW sold for $88 million, the Times today reports that a 10,923-square-foot duplex penthouse at the still-under-construction Extell building One57 has sold to a mystery buyer for a whopping $90+ million. Are we feeling poor yet?

A rendering of the finished One57.
Extell reps aren't saying the exact price for the apartment (more than $90 million, less than $100 million) or who bought it. But! They will say the buyer is "a very nice family" who "people would recognize" and that said buyers are not Russian, Ukrainian or from "any other part of the former Soviet Union." That fact was mostly touted about because that 15 CPW penthouse sold to the estate of a Russian billionaire on behalf of his daughter.
The penthouse of One57, a 90-story building at 157 West 57th Street, features wrap-around views of Manhattan (see the above) as well all the luxe amenities you'd want. 23-foot ceilings in the "grand salon" anyone?
One really interesting part of this massive sale—which apparently closed months ago—is that it is, per foot, actually cheaper than the 15 CPW deal. While that sale broke down to more than $13,000 per square foot, this deal is closer to $8,000. But let's go back to the total $90 million+ price. If you can stand it, try and think about that for a minute. The Avengers' record-breaking $200 million opening weekend grosses would barely even pay for two versions of this apartment.
