According to a Siena College poll released today [pdf], 57% of New York voters support the legalization of medical marijuana, while 36% oppose it. Presumably, those 36% think that New York will never, ever be as cool as Connecticut so there's no point in trying.
The poll comes as a bill that would legalize medical marijuana makes its way through Albany. In addition to the standard dispensary model that states like New Jersey (and 15 others) have adapted, the bill would include a "hardship" provision to allow patients to grow their own marijuana if they were deemed too sick to travel or too poor to buy the plant. You know, a "plant?" The thing that grows naturally in the ground when you give it water and sunlight?
Also included in the poll results were voters' opinions on hydrofracking (deadlocked at 37% to 36%) and MMA legalization, which 38% of those polled said they didn't have enough information to comment on, but carried support 32% to 26%. We'll take a dispensary card over a sweaty elbow any day of the week.
