Barack Obama is running for president. In a move that should surprise absolutely nobody the current leader of the free world officially kicked off his campaign for a second term today with rallies in Ohio and Virginia. Which means that this seemingly endless campaign is one tiny step closer to being over.

To get his ball rolling today after being introduced by First Lady Michelle, Obama told crowds at Ohio State University that, "We came together to reclaim the basic bargain that built the largest middle class and the most prosperous nation in the world. We are making progress."

He also called out his GOP adversary Mitt Romney by name, saying that in the former Massachusetts governor Congress had found a "rubber-stamp" for their agenda. "We can't give him a chance," he said. "This is a make-or-break moment for the middle class. And we’ve been through too much to turn back now."

It wasn't just Romney bashing though, Obama still called him "a patriotic American who has raised a wonderful family" before pointing out perceived flaws in the candidate ("the former governor of Massachusetts had drawn all of the wrong lessons from his careers in politics and in business," was how the Times paraphrased it). "Somehow, he and his friends in Congress think that the same bad ideas will lead to a different result. We were there. We remember. And we are not going back. We are moving this country forward."

Well, eventually. First we have months of bickering, conventions, talking heads and lame debates to wade through. Is it November 6th yet? Cause Barack Obama is texting us these days more than people we've actually dated.
