The driver of a privately operated garbage truck struck and killed a pedestrian in Hell's Kitchen earlier this morning at 3 a.m. The victim has not yet been identified pending notification of his family, but the NYPD press office says he was 23 years old. According to a preliminary investigation, the man was crossing 10th Avenue at 45th Street when he was fatally struck by the truck, which was heading northbound.

When police arrived shortly after 3 a.m., the unidentified man had "severe trauma to the body," and the FDNY confirms the victim was pronounced dead on the scene. The truck driver stayed at the scene and was not charged—the NYPD says "there is no criminality suspected at this time" but "the investigation is ongoing." And you know how that goes.
