The NYPD is looking for the public's help in finding a man suspected of punching then robbing someone near Central Park on Wednesday. The weapon of choice? An ice pick!
According to the cops, at around 9 p.m. on May 2, a 29-year-old man was leaving Central Park, near East Drive & 108th Street. The suspect approached him, punching him in the face and showing an ice pick before taking the victim's cell phone and cash. Police say the victim did not request medical attention.
The NYPD press office released a photo of the suspect, who is described as a black male, around 35 years old, 5'9" and 155 pounds. Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-557-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
You can also peruse the stats for the Central Park police precinct here (PDF)—there haven't been any robberies reported through April 22 this year, but there have been four felony assaults and five grand larcenies.
