Police say that a man who fatally shot his 13-year-old sister and wounded his mother was later wounded by police officers who were canvassing the area for him. The shootings occurred in Harlem—the 13-year-old and the 44-year-old were shot inside the Polo Ground Houses (2971 Frederick Douglass Boulevard) while the suspect was found a block away.

Via WABC 7
Police say that around 3:27 a.m., they responded to a call about a female who was shot at the Polo Grounds Houses. They found a woman with multiple gunshot wounds and the 13-year-old with a gunshot wound to her head. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene while her mother was taken to Harlem Hospital, where she is in critical condition.
The mother was able to give the police a description of the shooter, saying it was her son. A sergeant and his partner, who were patrolling a neighboring precinct, confronted a 28-year-old man who was running from the scene. At Frederick Douglass and West 155th, with the suspect fleeing, gun fire was exchanged and the suspect was shot in the leg and torso and caught.
A .22 caliber revolver was recovered at the scene and the suspect was taken to Harlem Hospital in serious condition. The motive for the shooting is not yet known.
