In what we imagine must be a special kind of Clockwork Orange torture for the NYPD, the violence-prone West Village McDonald's where a nasty brawl took place on St. Patrick's Day) has given the police access to a live video stream from inside the restaurant. Gotta start somewhere.

In addition to providing the live video feed, the franchise tells community members they are following up with promises to get officers to patrol the restaurant at key hours (which should hopefully appease City Council Speaker and boycott-threatener Christine Quinn). Considering how quickly violence can break out and disappear, and the fact that two of the high-profile outbreaks near the restaurant in the past year occurred on the street, the latter will probably be more helpful for the safety of both neighbors and McDonald's customers.

As for that video feed, we desperately hope that some bored McDonald's staffer at least once switches out the live feed for a loop of this video. Sure, it wouldn't be very safe. But it would be very funny.
