The police have released a sketch of a man suspect of trying to rape a woman who was jogging in Riverside Park on Friday evening. According to police, the 24-year-old woman was on a wooded path inside the park around 6 p.m., between West 125th and 122nd Streets, when a man approached her from behind.
The Post's sources say that the jogger "turned around to see a man who had run past earlier, approaching with his private parts exposed." He grabbed her by the neck and started to choke her. Police say that suspect then threw the victim to the ground and tried to rape her, but was interrupted by a park-goer, who then got the attention of a motorist. The victim was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
The Good Samaritans' intervention frightened away the suspect, who described as being a M/H, 35-40 years old, 5'9" and 180 lbs. He was wearing a blue baseball cap and back pack, both with a Nike "swoosh" insignia.
Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
