It's impossible to hear the word "dingoes" without thinking of Meryl Streep's famous line in A Cry In The Dark (reenacted here by Elaine on Seinfeld). But now we can associate dingoes with Brooklyn, thanks to the Prospect Park Zoo's new exhibit, which opened today.
The exhibit in the zoo's Australian Walkabout on the Discovery Trail section also features emus, a Western gray kangaroo, rock wallabies, and a Cape Barren geese. But let's put the focus back on those wild dogs, because these are the first dingoes to come to NYC in 40 years! And this morning Prospect Park Zoo Director Denise McClean said:
“The dingoes in the Australian Walkabout section of the Discovery Trail help demonstrate the species diversity native to Australia. They are the first canid species Prospect Park Zoo has ever exhibited and will allow us to educate our guests by drawing parallels to the conservation work WCS is conducting with other canids around the world.”
Click through for a preview (they're actually very cute!), then head over there for yourself... just hold on to your babies.
The Prosepct Park Zoo is located at 450 Flatbush Avenue, and admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors 65 and older, $5 for kids 3-12, free for children under 3. They're opened from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, and to 5:30 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
