Six months ago Sergey Mamontov, a 50-year-old Russian immigrant from Sheepshead Bay, decided to welcome a roommate into his apartment. But it seems they didn't click, and the unidentified 55-year-old roommate ended up moving into Mamontov's refrigerator. One neighbor tells the Daily News, "Maybe two weeks ago I saw Sergey and I asked him, 'You have another roommate?’ He said, 'Yes, but he will go away soon and no one will see him anymore.'" After his arrest yesterday, police say Mamontov told them he cut his roommate up after beating him to death last month.
The alleged homicide didn't attract police attention until yesterday, after a friend of the victim went looking for him at Mamontov's apartment. He says Mamontov told him, "You’re not going to see him anymore. He’s not around anymore. I cut him up." This man called the cops, who raided the apartment yesterday afternoon and found big vats of bleach and acid with human body parts dissolving in them. In the fridge, they found a five gallon bucket with other remains and eight smaller Clorox bottles. "There isn’t even room for an egg" in the refrigerator, one source told the Post. Which is too bad, because the officers who responded to this call were probably pretty hungry.
Mamontov allegedly told cops he didn't get along with the roommate, and he finally snapped when he came home to find him partying with friends in the apartment. They then got into a fatal fistfight, and Mamontov, who has two prior DUI busts and one for grand larceny, reportedly admitted to police that he chopped him up to try and get rid of the evidence. "The one who died was terrible," one neighbor tells the News. "He was crazy. He was a drunk all the time." But a female neighbor says Mamontov was "creepy"—if you can believe that—because "he approached me [recently] and said, ‘Come up to 4D, the party’s in 4D.' " BYO Bleach!
