A Manhattan kitty recently threw such a hissy fit that its owner had to call the cops. For real. The Daily News today has the story of 2-year-old tuxedo tabby Aqua—who got so upset about something he went and threw himself through a glass window pane in Inwood. Fortunately, the fuzz collared the frisky feline before fur flew fatally!
Cat owners, which most of the Gothamist staff are, know how the story starts: Last night Aqua suddenly got upset, as cats are wont to do from time to time, and turned from a pleasant domestic pussy into a vicious king of the jungle. Out of the blue he reportedly started biting and clawing at his owner, 52-year-old Marta Hevia. "I was coming out of the bathroom when he attacked. I said, ‘No, Aqua! No!’ He was trying to kill me," she recalled.
So the terrified Hevia called the cops—but the arrival of the NYPD's Emergency Service Unit only made the cat crazier. First he tried hiding under a nightstand and, when that didn't work, he then jumped through a glass window pane (the News has pics) and made a dash for it. But the cops made quick pursuit and eventually Aqua was collared and brought home. Since then the neutered kitty appears to have calmed down and now Hevia has a story for the rest of her life. Still, next time we recommend folks like Hevia call a professional cat catcher/calmer rather than the NYPD.
