The DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn is sorely lacking in decent dining options, so it's with open arms that the newest spot, Gran Electrica, is welcome into the small fold. Especially since it's taking over Pub One's space, which had a dismal 2 star Yelp rating, and often surly service (and a very stringent enforcement of their "customers only" bathroom policy). The latest incarnation of the space comes from the people behind Colonie, and has chefs Sam Richman (Jean Georges, The Fat Duck) and Brad McDonald (Noma, Per Se) doing Mexican dishes.
Gran Electrica will serve up tilefish, brisket, sweetbreads, pork shoulder, and tongue tacos ($3.50 to $4.50), amongst others. They also have gorditas, quesadillas, oysters, clams, scallops, churras and more... including $13 margaritas and $5 cans of Tecate. Which is the price you pay for imbibing under the iconic Brooklyn Bridge.
The restaurant is now open for business, however, it doesn't seem like they expected such a warm spring, because their expansive outdoor space isn't quite ready yet. Photographer Katie Sokoler dropped by yesterday for a look at how things we're coming along—click through for a look at the menu and the space.
