Despite plenty of people hating his guts terrible throwing arm, a lot of New York is doing whatever it can to make the newest, holiest Jets quarterback/meme generator feel right at home. Jockey has put up a digital billboard welcoming Tim Tebow on the New Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel, and Carnegie Deli will unveil a new "Jetbow" sandwich on Monday. Hmm, we wonder which current starting Jets quarterback has never been given his own sandwich at Carnegie...
The "Jetsbow" will be about 3.5 pounds and contain corned beef, pastrami, roast beef, American cheese, lettuce and tomato on white bread. The sandwich will cost $22.22, a price that plays off adding Tebow's and Sanchez's numbers together—so Sanchez is kind of part of this sandwich, if you think throwing your jersey number into a gimmicky price for your more beloved backup QB's sandwich counts.
Owner Sandy Levine sounds like he has a serious man-crush on Tebow: "He's the poster boy for every parent and what they want their kids to be. Very religious, very clean-cut, an outstanding student, he does charity work. What more do you want as an athlete than him?" Perhaps a functioning throwing motion, or perhaps ANY football skill that would differentiate him from a glorified fullback? "We wanted to make it because he's that All-American kid, the picture of what every mother and father want their son and daughter to be in the United States," Levine added, flanked by American flags, white picket fences and 7th avenue rat carcasses.
This is only the latest food item to be graced with Tebow's image or name: there was Tebrew beer in Colorado last year (and it's only a matter of time before it migrates East), and a $25 grilled cheese on ebay with a likeness of Tim Tebow kneeling in prayer (collectors item!). Poor poor Sanchez: all he gets to eat are sideline hot dogs and nameless burritos. But hey, has Tebow ever had a goofy dance named after him??
