Although we were watching it on livestream while playing bingo, hundreds of thousands of people (the Post puts it at 2 million!) came out for the 251st annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Manhattan today, and were treated to absolutely gorgeous weather. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly led the bagpipers up toward Central Park, where Bloomberg got a chance to try out some jokes: "The luck of the Irish means that if you are Irish, you're lucky enough,'' he told reporters.
This year's grand marshal was Francis X. Comerford, chief revenue officer and president of commercial operations for the NBC Owned Television Stations. He grew up in Brooklyn—and attended Xavier High School—but he traces his Irish lineage back to Ireland's County Kilkenny. According to our photographer on the ground, the mood was buoyant and the crowd was boisterous—check out some photo's from the parade above.
