Rick Santorum does it again. Hot on the heels of telling Puerto Rico to speak English the GOP hopeful has put up a screed on his website that frets over how "America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography."
"Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships," the post goes on. "It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking." If Santorum has his way (and secures the nomination) he swears he'll fix this problem by strictly enforcing current rules:
Current federal “obscenity” laws prohibit distribution of hardcore (obscene) pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier. Rick Santorum believes that federal obscenity laws should be vigorously enforced. “If elected President, I will appoint an Attorney General who will do so.”
The Obama Administration has turned a blind eye to those who wish to preserve our culture from the scourge of pornography and has refused to enforce obscenity laws. While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum Administration.
The move is clearly another grab by Santorum to garner support from his base (after all, his opponent Mitt Romney takes money from porn peddlers) but it also gives us another chance to chuckle at the former Pennsylvania Senator. And it has the added benefit for his campaign of making "Santorum Porn" a momentarily safe Google search. The man does realize that Americans really love their pornography, right?
