A second person has been struck by a subway train today. The FDNY confirms that they received a call from outside the East Broadway subway station at 2:02 p.m. First responders were on the scene three minutes later, and they removed the person from the tracks in a half hour. The unidentified victim has been rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. This morning an unidentified man was fatally struck by an E train at Roosevelt Avenue. (A witness told us, "Apparently the man was partially naked and threw himself in front of the train right as it pulled in the station. Commuters were crying on the platform.")
An MTA spokesman says the uptown F is being rerouted over the A line through West 4th Street, and the MTA website says this is "due to a police investigation at Broadway-Lafayette." It's unclear if that's a separate incident or just a mistake, but we'll update as more information becomes available. It's not unheard of for two people to be hit by a subway train on the same day; last month two people were struck by trains in a single day at the 72nd Street and Broadway 1/2 station.
