Oh, to be a fly in that soup! Turns out that last month the leader of the free world and the leader of the five boroughs sat down for a cozy, "long private lunch at the White House" that just happened to be absent from both politicians public schedules. Details about the meeting are obviously slim, but thanks to The Times we do know that at some point President Obama asked Mayor Bloomberg something along the lines of "what are you interested in doing next?"
The pols and their people are mum on what the billionaire from Boston might have responded—presumably he didn't say he was going to Disney World (why bother when you've got homes around the world?). It is an important question for the mayor, though, as his third term is quickly slipping away and—massive wealth and media empire notwithstanding—it is difficult for a late-to-life politician to find a public pulpit as good as Mike's found at City Hall. After all, he has been rumored for some big positions in the Obama administration before and not bit.
Just as likely as the two talking future jobs for Hizzoner (who the president did not endorse last time), Obama might have been looking for Bloomberg to give him a little business titan endorsement love (as opposed to saying he needs "better advisors" and is "arrogant") since the Prez has a biz-focused Mitt coming up on the horizon. Or, maybe the two golf buddies just were looking for some time to catch up, shoot the breeze, and, who knows, maybe give some thought on what to do about the possible OWS resurgence coming up fast.
