In the world of New York artisanal pizza, no champion can rest on their laurels too long. Not when new hot spots seem to be opening up left and right. To that end, we'd like to introduce you to the new pizza darling in town, Don Antonio in Hell's Kitchen.

Don Antonio opened its doors on West 50th Street less than a month ago and already it's getting serious attention from the pizza press—helped by the fact that it has some serious pedigree. The restaurant is the brainchild of Robert Caporuscio (one of the pie slingers at the much-loved Kesté) and his mentor Antonio Starita (who owns Pizza Starita a Materdei in Naples, Italy). Another Famous Original Papa John's this is not.

The newcomer covers all the basics required for an up-and-coming pizzeria. Gorgeous wood-fired oven? Check. All your standard pizza pies, sides and the like? Yup, yup. Trendy fried-then-baked Montanara pies? Certainly—Starita's been making 'em in Italy for ages now. Aggressively over-the-top Yelp reviews about how fantastic it is? You betcha. A proclamation in a major local publication calling its pizza the best in town? Take it away, New York. A swooning cooking video on Slice? Naturally. A space just small enough to make sure it always looks busy? Most definitely (it seats about 70). A fancy cocktail menu to complement your $20 pizza? Of course!

Which is to say, those looking to be on the cutting edge of the pizza slicer will want to make their way to 309 West 50th Street sooner rather than later. Because at this rate the next big pizza joint should be opening in five...four...three...
