A former Stonehill College student from NY is suing the school, claiming that her roommate's "disturbingly" open sex life drove her into a suicidal depression—and the college was derelict in helping her deal with it. Lindsay Blankmeyer alleges in the lawsuit that roommate “Laura,” was having online and in-person sex when she was in the room: “More disturbingly, Laura would have sex with her boyfriend while Lindsay was trying to sleep just a few feet away. Laura would also engage in sexually inappropriate video chatting when Lindsay was in the room,” the complain says. At least there were no roosters involved.

Blankmeyer, who suffered from depression and attention deficit disorder before she enrolled, said she complained to her resident's assistance because her roommate “often had overnight guests without asking [Blankmeyer's] permission or even informing [her] that she would be having guests.” She also claims the roommate would shake and yell at her when she was trying to sleep. Blankmeyer unsuccessfully tried to persuade school officials to force her roommate to move out or to give her an acceptable private room.

Instead, they offered her two housing options: move into a "small cubicle-like space" that was previously used as a study lounge, or move into a "party dorm" with a stranger. Unable to reach an agreement, the school told Blankmeyer she “was not entitled to a reasonable accommodation of a single room.” As a result, she says she fell into a “dark and suicidal depression requiring her to take a leave of absence from school.” She eventually moved into a hotel, before ultimately leaving the school.

"Stonehill refused Lindsay's request for a single room and in the following weeks and months Lindsay fell into a dark and suicidal depression requiring her to take a leave of absence from school and undergo extensive psychiatric and medical treatment," the lawsuit claims.

Stonehill spokeswoman Kristen Magda told AP that the college responded "swiftly and professionally" to Blackmeyer's complaints about her roommate, and claim, "at no time did the student notify college staff that her concerns involved her roommate's sexual activity."
