One of the two boys who put a woman in a coma by tossing a Target shopping cart off a mall walkway in Harlem last Halloween was sentenced to spend up to 18 months in a group home in Westchester County yesterday. "He’s finally going to get help...I thank God for that," the boy's mother reportedly sobbed after the sentencing.

The 13-year-old tosser is being sent to Graham Windham, a low-security therapeutic home in Westchester County, for a minimum of half a year and a maximum of 16 months. If he misbehaves, however, he can be moved to a more secure facility and could be kept in the juvenile system until he turns 18. His compatriot is still awaiting sentencing.

But the story doesn't quite end there. While the boys will both be punished and the woman they hit, Upper West Side real estate broker Marion Salmon Hedges, is out of her coma and has reportedly forgiven them, law makers are now trying to figure out if there is any legislation they can introduce to assure this doesn't happen again (so expect to see a lot more high barriers along public walkways in the future). And Hedges husband Michael has filed a lawsuit against the East River Plaza shopping center where the incident occurred, arguing that if there had been enough security at the mall, the two teens wouldn't have been able to send that fateful shopping cart plunging four stories onto his wife's head.
