The Harry Potter books and movies are all wrapped up, Harry himself is off having groupie sex, and many of the kids who grew up reading the series as it came out are now adults. So if you are like us and think its about time for author J.K. Rowling to write something more (and maybe more grown-up) we've got good news for you!
Rowling has announced that, after five years without a new book, she's readying a new novel, and this one is for adults. Little, Brown and Company, part of the Hachette Book Group, said today it acquired the rights to publish the book, whose title and publication date was not named.
In a statement, Rowling had this to say:
Although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series, which has been published so brilliantly by Bloomsbury and my other publishers around the world. The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry’s success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher. I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life.
This isn't the only big announcement Rowling has made recently—last summer she dropped Pottermore, a Harry Potter website still in beta—but it has already gotten people in a tizzy. And since nothing is known about the new book other than the fact it is written by Rowling, you won't be shocked to learn that Twitter is already having fun playing with the #JKRowlingAdultNovel hashtag. "Harry Potter and the Cubicle of Broken Dreams," anyone?
