Since converting our URL to Linthamist.com over two weeks ago, we've found that sometimes there's just too much good Jeremy Lin news than can be fit into one day. Thus, we're proud to bring you our end-of-the-day Lin wrap-up linkstravaganza:
When Jeremy Met Timmy: When Jeremy Lin first burst onto the scene three odd weeks ago, we knew he was inspired by Tim Tebow, the evangelical Denver Broncos QB who took the NFL by storm last season despite not being all that good. But it seems the two have finally connected: according to People Magazine, Lin and Tebow have talked over the phone. Jeremy's been a fan of Tebow's for a while, but only recently were they able to connect," says Lin's former chaplain at Harvard, Adrian Tam.
The feeling of admiration seems to be mutual. On Feb. 20 at the Cartoon Network's Hall of Game awards, Tebow told ESPN: "I've had the pleasure of getting to know him over the last few weeks and what a great guy he is. I think he's handling himself great and I think he can take care of himself. And I just say keep being true to him and keep working hard and don't listen to everybody else."
Lin Etsy: It seems Jeremy Lin merchandizing has evolved from shoddy t-shirts and homemade signs to the next level: crafts! That includes photostitch machine embroidery designs, bottle cap necklaces, iPhone cases, MacBook decals, and wall clocks.
BLT Bar And A View: Some more details about Lin's new W Hotel Financial District digs: he'll have a BLT bar available to him. And they call it a "mid-level unit!" Also, Lin got a good deal on the place because Knicks assistant coach Herb Williams attended the bar mitzvah of Matthew Moinian, the son of the W's developer Joseph Moinian...or something.
No Olympics, But Plenty Of Statistics: In case anyone thought differently: no, Jeremy Lin will not be a candidate for the USA Olympic basketball team. Jerry Colangelo, the former Phoenix Suns owner who runs USA Basketball, believes “There’s such a thing as paying dues.” But that doesn't matter at all to statistical geeks: "Jeremy Lin is a validation of our worldview: Ignore expectation, follow the data," Wired wrote. "There’s still more moneyballing to be done in the NBA, methinks."
Rookie Card Mania: A Jeremy Lin rookie card has now exceeded a $21,000 bid on eBay. Seller Yair Rozmaryn, who bought the card a week ago for $1,000, told ESPN, "I saw a lot of potential in him...He plays in New York City. He seems like a really personable guy."
Next Up: The Knicks play the Miami Heat tonight in a highly anticipated game between the two hottest teams in the Eastern Conference. As Grantland points out, don't expect Lin to have a big game—but then again, a lot of that will be in the hands of Joel Anthony.
