After an off-night Friday, Jeremy Lin didn't want to have two lackluster games in a row. He didn't. The NBA's February sensation scored 28 points and added 14 assists as the Knicks took down the Mavericks, 104-97. The Knicks trailed by as many as 12 in the third quarter but didn't panic. Lin, who had nine turnovers Friday, was back to his old tricks Sunday against the NBA's defending champions. Steve Novak had 14 points (including 4-of-5 shooting from 3-point land). Amare Stoudemire had 11 points but wasn't a major factor. J.R. Smith had 15 points in his Knicks debut and said he was surprised at the role he played. Carmelo Anthony could return Monday against the Nets; he's missed the last seven games, six of them Knicks wins.
Brook Lopez had nine points and two rebounds in 22 minutes as the Nets did not build a winning streak in a 92-85 loss at Milwaukee. Derron Williams had 26 points the day after he led his team to an upset over the Bulls.
On a night when the Canadiens honored former Expos and Mets catcher Gary Carter, the Devils defeated the home Habs, 3-1. Zach Parise, David Clarkson and Matt Taormina scored for New Jersey, which is now in fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
Not even a game-tying goal with 1:33 remaining in regulation could derail the Rangers, who recovered to beat the Blue Jackets, 3-2, in overtime. Derek Stepan scored 22 seconds into the extra session. That came after Rich Nash, long the subject of trade rumors involving the Rangers, scored the tying goal. That led the Madison Square Garden faithful to chant "We don't want you."
