In the NBA, you can't assume any games are going to be easy wins (Lins?). Coming into the game, New Orleans had fewer wins (six) than the Knicks had in their seven-game win streak. But the streak had to end some time, and the Knicks played so poorly that they deserved to lose the game, 89-85. New York never led in the game, scoring just 13 points in the first quarter. But thanks to a good 2nd quarter, the Knicks trailed by just 4 points at halftime. The closest the Knicks could come was a two-point deficit in the final minute.

New York turned the ball over 21 times, leading to 28 Hornets points and struggled from 3-point range (4 of 24) and the free throw line (19 for 29). As for Jeremy Lin? He had 26 points, 4 steals, 4 assists and 9 (!) turnovers. Amare Stoudemire had 26 points and 12 boards in the loss. Former Knick Trevor Ariza had 25 points and 8 assists to lead the Hornets.

For the Knicks, their three-point shooting may improve soon. They signed shooting guard J.R. Smith, who was previously playing in China. Smith is not expected to play Sunday against the Dallas Mavericks.

Over in New Jersey, the Devils beat the Ducks 3-2 in shootout. The Devils had a 2-0 lead in the 2nd period, but Anaheim scored the tying goal with less than three minutes to go. With no goals in OT, New Jersey was able to win in the shootout. Martin Brodeur had 36 saves in the win.
