Okay, here's our end-of-day Jeremy Lin wrap-up post:
President Obama: America's biggest basketball fan has weighed in on Linsanity—sorta. His press secretary Jay Carney said today, "The president is an avid sports fan and a particularly avid basketball fan. We were speaking about Jeremy Lin on Marine One as we flew here to Andrews Air Force Base this morning. If anybody caught the highlights from last night, they were pretty breathtaking. It’s just a great story and the president was saying as much this morning. Obviously it’s terrific for the New York Knicks, but it’s the kind of sports story that transcends the sport itself. It involves people who don’t necessarily pay attention. I got my wife to watch the highlight this morning. She was pretty amazed and she doesn’t watch basketball. It’s a great story and yes, he is very impressed and fully up to speed."
Musical taste: Lin, a devout Christian, gives thumbs up to Christian musicians Lecrae and Hillsong:
Yankees: Joba Chamberlain is trying to ride the Linsanity Express. The Daily News reports, "The Yankees reliever, who is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery at the team's minor-league complex in Tampa, knows what Knicks sensation Jeremy Lin is going through. 'If there is anybody in New York City who knows what he is going through, it's me,' Chamberlain said Wednesday, 'and I'm very honored to be able to say that.'"
All-Star Game: The NBA is reportedly looking for a way to involve Lin during All-Star Weekend. Which makes sense since he's excited many here and abroad. Also, the Shooting Star competition is being sponsored by a Chinese appliance company (pressure!).
Earlier victims speak out: Deron Williams, whose New Jersey Nets got owned by Lin on February 4 (aka, the day the Linsanity started), didn't want to talk about the Knicks sensation. He told reporters, “I didn't see. I don't watch TV, I swear, I do not watch TV. Since I went to Istanbul I, like, stopped watching TV.... Why would we get excited about the Knicks? We're 8-21, I'm worried about us, not what Jeremy Lin's doing."
Hahvahd: One of Lin's former Harvard teammates answered the question, What's it like to play on the same basketball team as Jeremy Lin? He is not "deceptively" quick like people keep saying. He is just super quick, straight up. And athleticism is not just about your bench press and your vertical. He has more than enough lateral quickness, coordination, body control and instincts to make up for what he might lack in the more traditional athletic categories.
Racist or not: Is the Post's back sports page headline "Amasian" racist?
Paparazzi are tailing his grandmother in Taiwan: And his uncle too! This cute article in the NY Times describes the Linsanity in Taiwan and how his grandmother doesn't really know much about the game: "Each time [Lin] fell or was knocked down or elbowed by the Raptors, who played a pugnacious, battering defense against him, her face froze. 'I don’t know too much about basketball, but this is not how it should be done, why do they do it?' she said with dismay. 'I know nothing about basketball. I only know when Jeremy puts the ball in the basket he has done a good thing.'"
Linsane in the Membrane: Check it out.
Next up: The Knicks are playing against the Sacramento Kings tonight.
