The controversy over massive homophobic donations by Chick-Fil-A's charitable arm returns! Though the NYU Student Senators Council doesn't seem too worried about the chicken chain's extra-curricular cash expenditures, at least some students do. And they've gone and made an internet petition. That'll teach 'em!

An NYU student named Hillary Dworkoski started the petition after the Council voted last Fall not to ban any non-university businesses affiliated with the school due to their political or social stances. "Out of all the schools I applied to, I picked NYU because I felt like I could truly fit in with the diverse and accepting campus community," Dworkoski, a bisexual student from California, said in a release regarding the campaign. "I was disturbed to find out that not only was NYU supporting an extremely anti-gay company, but it was also home to New York City's only Chick-fil-A restaurant. I knew I had to do something."

So she went and started a petition against NYU's affiliation with the location (the only the one in NYC). So far she has 4,000 signatures and counting, with people's reasons for signing ranging from "the occasional tasty piece of chicken isn't worth supporting a company run by a bunch of assholes" to "we can't teach the value of diversity and social justice if we don't practice it."

Still, we're not really sure a petition is going to do much here—though we understand where it is coming from. If those crazy kids want to see Chick-Fil-A off their campus they should a)never buy from them and b)actively tell others to do the same. Because let's be honest here, most of the people (students and laymen) slipping into that NYU dorm for their chicken fix aren't perusing the petitions on Change.org.
