an infant girl abandoned in a Brooklyn apartment building just after midnight earlier today. The baby, believed to be about six months old, was found in front of a seventh-floor apartment at W. 33rd Street building in the O'Dwyer Houses; near her were a broken cell phone and a mini Vodka bottle. “She was cute. She was dressed in pink. She didn't even have shoes on, just socks," Angel Cruz told the News.
Cruz said he and his daughter were awakened shortly before midnight by the sound of someone pounding a wall and a baby wailing. Neighbor Valentina Gerzh also heard the racket: "It was very loud. I kept hearing the woman's voice: 'What happened? What happened?’" The baby was taken to Coney Island Hospital, where she was listed in good condition.
Police are still investigating where her parents are, and how she ended up abandoned, but neighbors say the little girl seemed healthy. "She was so pretty," Marya Ramos said. "She was wearing a little pink coat with jeans and a purple shirt. She looked in good health. Nobody has come to ask for the baby. I hope the mother is okay."
