The Avengers isn't the only superhero movie threatening to destroy New York this summer. We've also got the Spider-Man reboot, Amazing Spider-Man, coming. And though we were antsy after the first trailer, we're much less so now. The Spidey we grew up with would say things like "You seriously think I'm a cop? In a skin-tight red and blue suit?" And that's the wallcrawler we've seem to have here.
Unlike in the previous Spider-Man movies—which certainly had their charms—this one, from director Marc Webb, seems to really be going for a grimier take on the story. Unlike Tobey Maguire, we suspect the new Peter Parker, Andrew Garfield, might actually be able to pull off a little bit of brooding—especially since he seems to have the hero's cocky one-liners down pat. We're also very pleased that once again the webslinger's webbing appears to be a Peter Parker original and not something derived from that radioactive spider bite.
One thing you can't see in the new preview? That this flick is reportedly very, very 3D friendly. In screenings of the new footage yesterday Webb reportedly went on and on about how the movie was filmed in "true 3D."
If you can't wait until July, you can always go back and remember when we spied on the movie mid-production.
