Did you have to battle crowds of people wearing #10 jerseys during your commute this morning? The Giants Super Bowl XLVI celebratory parade begins at 11 a.m., and crowds are already 10-15 people deep along the route. Our Tien Mao is at the scene and reports that a fan told a Department of Sanitation worker, "You're going to hate me, I have silly string." The DSNY worker replied, "I have overtime."
One million people are expected to line the streets, hoping to catch a glimpse of their champions and the Vince Lombardi trophy. The route starts at Battery Place and Washington Street, and then the floats go up the Canyon of Heroes to Worth Street, and then the Giants will get keys to the city in a City Hall ceremony. NY1.com will start streaming the parade and ceremony at 11 a.m.
Thanks to Mayor Bloomberg, you can watch the parade via your own computer! No dealing with drunken fans!
Update, 12 p.m.: Now it's time for the ceremony. Tien says, "Parade over, but shit just got real. NYPD arrested spectator after some pushing/shoving. Fun times!"
