Here's another good reason why farebeaters are running out of excuses for topping off their MetroCards: starting February 1, you will now be able to refill your 7- and 30-day MetroCards! WIth that innovation out of the way, does this mean we're one step closer to subway chin rests?

Here's how it works: after you use your unlimited at least once, you can refill your 7-Day
or 30-Day Unlimited Ride MetroCard any time after that, but it must be for the same unlimited ride period. The Unlimited Ride MetroCard can only hold one refill at a time—and your refill is activated on the first swipe only after your current Unlimited Ride period ends. Once you’ve activated it again, you can refill it again, even if you haven't used the card for a long while.

While this is great news for commuters, and saves the city lots of wasted replacement card money, we have to ask: how will this affect those hard-working MetroCard entrepreneurs and MetroCard magnates?
