The demure NJ Gov. Chris Christie is not known for speaking out brashly. So it came as a shock when Christie lambasted Newt Gingrich after his South Carolina victory over Christie's BFF Mitt Romney. "He was run out of the speakership by his own party,” Christie said on "Meet The Press." “This is a guy who has had a very difficult political career at times and has been an embarrassment to the party.” Embarrassment? What has poor old Newt ever done that could be considered embarrassing?
Christie specifically pointed to Gingrich’s $300,000 payment to resolve allegations of giving misleading information in a 1997 ethics probe. Christie was quick to note that automaton Romney has never had a scandal, let alone a misplaced hair in his perfectly coiffed head. "I think Newt Gingrich has embarrassed the party, over time," Christie said. "Whether he will do it again in the future, I don't know. But Gov. Romney never has."
Gingrich certainly wasn't doing himself any favors in the embarrassment department when he told CNN that if he wins the White House, he'd ask ex-Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin to take a "major role" in his administration. There's absolutely nothing embarrassing about the fact that one gets 19 million search results if they Google "Sarah Palin embarrassing."
