Good news/bad news time ladies. The good: it turns out that all those reports that single ladies outnumber single men in NYC have been greatly exaggerated. According to a new StatsBee column from the city's Economic Development Corporation, there are more never-married single men than women between the ages 20 and 34. Bad news: that means you can't blame the fact you're single on a lack of single men.

Single Bee went through the census data and found there are 742,400 single men in that 20-34 age subgroup, compared to 729,500 single women. So although the city has an overall population of 53 percent female and 47 percent male, that statistic falsely "supports an argument that the gender imbalance makes it more difficult for some women to find a partner." At least you can still blame being single on romantic comedies! And of course, just because it says "single" on the census form doesn't mean those men don't have girlfriend.

They also found that the ratio varies widely by neighborhood: on the Upper East Side, young single women outnumber young single men nearly 2 to 1. But in Jackson Heights there are 1.7 males for every female. The two most balanced neighborhoods are Jamaica, Queens and Pelham Gardens in the Bronx. Eh, for what it's worth, NYC is only the #58 best city to find love in, so you might as well head to Omaha.
