Although Mayor Bloomberg is too shy to say which NY team he supports more (unlike NJ Gov. Chris Christie), he's perfectly fine with making bets over playoff games. To that end, Bloomberg made a friendly wager with Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt over this Sunday's NFC Divisional game between the Giants and Packers. “The Giants are playing best when it matters most, and I know they’re going to keep it up on Sunday,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “I have a feeling that Victor Cruz will be dancing in the end zone and the Giants will be putting the Packers’ Super Bowl dreams to rest just like they did four years ago. And our salsa and cheesecake will be staying right here in Brooklyn.”
If the Giants win, Mayor Schmitt will send local cheese curds and Titletown’s Sno-Cap root beer. If the Packers win, Mayor Bloomberg will send Junior’s cheesecake and—in honor of the touchdown dance stylings of Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz (see video below)—salsa from the Brooklyn Salsa Company. “The Lambeau Leap will always trump a touchdown salsa dance! We have the best team in the NFL and I look forward to another win,” said Mayor Schmitt.
Last year, Bloomberg lost his wager with Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl on the AFC Championship game between the Jets and the Steelers—Bloomberg ended up hanging a "Terrible Towel" on the refurbished main branch of the New York Public Library. We also got to see what Bloomberg looked like in a Steelers uniform.
For fans who aren't headed to Lambeau Field on Sunday, Bark Hot Dogs and Brooklyn Bowl bow have fun events planned, and there are plenty of Giants-themed events going on at other bars and restaurants around town. Chef Jordan Andino of Little Town NYC and SideBar has created an "Eli Manwich" sloppy joe for the occasion; Gallagher’s Steak House has the “Eli Mann-Eater Big Blue Burger;” and JoeDough has an Italian hero-style “The Giant(s) Curd Crusher.” There are also game-day deals at Snap Sports Bar, all three Village Pourhouse locations, 508 Restaurant & Bar and La Gloria Restaurant & Lounge.
