So, remember earlier today, when we all got our knickers into a twist over the news that Nanny Bloomberg was considering limiting our access to booze, in addition to salt, fat, cigarettes, and everything fun, ever? Well, we can all relax now, because it turns out the whole thing was just a big misunderstanding. THANK SWEET BABY JESUS, right?
The Post talked to Bloomberg spokesman Stu Loeser, who said the mayor wouldn't be backing the proposed effort to limit booze-selling and booze-vertising. “One reason the mayor has been successful in office is because we think there are no bad ideas in brainstorming—and then we weigh them against other concerns. We’re deeply committed to encouraging entrepreneurs to start and expand small businesses in the city,” he said. Guess the tabloid jumped the gun on those exclusive documents, eh?
Anyhow, Loeser did make a point to say that Bloomberg does "[support] the overall goal of reducing binge drinking and illegal alcohol sales to minors through public service ads and other initiatives," so those scary subway ads probably aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
