Good news for budget-conscious diners who don't care about crushing whatever soul was left in the East Village: the brand-new 7-Eleven on The Bowery is offering $1 pizza slices! EV Grieve posted a shot of the ad today, nothing that 7-Eleven is bravely entering the East Village $1 pizza war (more on that here), with little more than a double-chambered Slurpee machine as its strongest ally.
A call to the shop confirms that yes, indeed, the dollar pizza does exist, in TWO EXCITING FLAVORS: six (!) cheese, and pepperoni. The brand-new shop (it opened on Friday) is open 24 hours a day, and the staffer, who sounded remarkably like a bored suburban teenager, said that they've been doing a brisk late-night pizza business. As for his dollar-slice competition, he seemed unfazed: "Uh, I don't know, I haven't tried the other guys so I'm not too worried." Bold words from a true renegade, you guys.
