Brooklyn cafe owner Josh Rubin, who was last seen on October 31, was found dead outside of Allentown, Pennsylvania. It turns out that his burned body was found on November 1 in South Whitehall Township but DNA testing only recently identified the remains as Rubin's.
Further, while the body was burned, an autopsy performed on November 2 determined that the cause of death was a gunshot wound. On November 16, Lehigh County authorities released forensic sketches of the unidentified victim, noting, "The victim is a white man, between 18 and 30 years old, 6 feet, 1 inch to 6 feet, 3 inches tall and weighing 160 to 170 pounds, according to a news release. The victim also wore glasses, a plaid shirt, and purple and black checkered socks." Rubin's death has been ruled a homicide.
Rubin had recently opened Whisk Bakery Cafe in Ditmas Park, and his family offered a $5,000 reward for information just a few weeks ago. Information about his funeral will be available later.
Anyone with information should contact Lehigh County Homicide Task Force Detective Lou Tallarico or South Whitehall Township Detective Tom Gersbach at 610-437-5252.
